Dubai Financial Markets General Index Elliott Wave: What a Year!

A year ago i opined that the announcement of the Dubai Expo 2020 would produce peak euphoria for few months which once dissipated would have a negative effect on the DFMGI. The Index at that time was at approx 2900. The DFMGI 6 months later put in a top at 5400 on May 14th 2014. Since the top it has reversed almost all of 2014 gains with a drop back down to approx 3367 today.
As it stands the market is in no mans land, but there are 2 counts that could play out as seen on the monthly chart below.
In the festive spirit: Green is the bull count and Red is the bear count. The current move can either be a new bullish 1st wave followed by a 2 in progress or a bearish (X) wave with an ABC lower to follow.

Both counts of the current move in question are illustrated below on the weekly time frame.

My current preference is the bearish count because i initially thought that the 3635 level from 2007 and again in 2014 would provide support. That level was broken with ease, further todays close was below the Green ABC channel and marginally below the 50% retracement. If the DFMGI does not pop up hard within this week and maintain the channel and the 50% retrace, i will consider that proof that the downside is not yet done and will then look to see if the 61.8% at 2854 provides any support.
Also if the year end closes with prices right here. on a yearly chart we will be left with one big shooting star pattern, which is a sign of further nastiness to come.

Dubai Expo 2020 & the DFMGI

If you live in Dubai, you cant escape it. Dubai Expo 2020 is plastered everywhere from your morning newspaper to the window of the little restaurant where you get your favorite shawarma.
The DFMGI has gone from approximately 1353 to 1622, 19% for 2012 and from 1622 to 2923, 80% to date making it one of the best performers globally.
The economic effects of actually hosting an event like an expo or the Worldcup are sum zero to net negative depending on the expenditure on essential infrastructure thats lasts a few years compared to porta infrastructure covered well by this article in the gulf news. (http://gulfnews.com/business/opinion/uae-s-expo-2020-bid-is-a-chance-to-mark-history-1.1195582) This point is also made obvious by the protests in Brazil around hosting the Worldcup, who think that the public well-being is of more importance than national pride when it comes to allocating national resources and taxpayer funds.

What is visible locally in Dubai though is this extreme buildup of positive sentiment that has been built around winning the bid. Win or lose ... the end of this announcement and the following euphoria that might last a month or two will be a dampener on sentiment which may manifest itself on asset prices and on the Dubai Financial Markets General Index for which data is most transparent and easily available.

The Bull Fighter

Like anyone else I am often asked as what I do for a living. My response?? "Bull Fighter".
The media constantly throws bullshit at people and it seems like my job (for those who seek to employ me) is to constantly fight this bullshit and try to provide an unbiased opinion on the state of the financial markets. The internet provides us with an easy opportunity to go back and check who said what, how it turned out and most importantly what their motive was when they said it. After some time bullshit becomes easier to spot.

In its purest form: My correspondence with a Bloomberg Editor. The same thing happens repeatedly, but i don't get paid to deal with it.

In its most dangerous form: Famous Permabulls with an Agenda and market moving reputations.

My comment on Facebook at the time.
The DFM chart with April 18th marked is approximately 22% lower today and breaking historic lows!

Hopefully when the market gets bullish I will feel it coming and start fighting the Bearish Bullshit.

Hoping to stay the Bull*&%# Fighter.
